Problem w. 13" Macbook Pro at start-up: Help Please!

My Macbook Pro 13" starts-up fine, but once it's on, the touchpad and keyboard don't work. I have to force shut down, start it up again and then it's fine.

I also have it connected to a 23" Apple monitor w. USB apple keyboard and bluetooth apple mouse. No functionality with the keyboard. The bluetooth mouse appears but I can't click on anything. Also the dock won't pop up either. Strange.

I would try PRAM and SMC reset if that has not been done already. Also, try repairing permissions.
