iPod touch Problem w/ itunes 10, iOS 5.1 and Mac G5 PPC

When I connect my ipod touch itunes 10 indicates an error and can't connect to my iPod. I have changed the email address at my account at Apple.com for itunes, however I can't find any place to change the log in email address on the iPod. Since the iTunes on PPC won't connect I can't fix this. My mac mini intel died so will be buying new Mac in a couple of months.

You can change your Apple ID under the iTunes and App Store section in Settings. What error does it give you? Which iPod touch generation is this?
