I delete messages on my iPhone and iMac as soon as I read them (I like to have a clean inbox). However, when I go into iCloud on my phone, it says I have 1,763 messages (32 MB) saved to iCloud (see attached). When I open messages on my phone and desktop, it says I have none. I tried turning off Messages in iCloud. It said messages would be erased and downloaded. Upon turning Messages in iCloud back on, I still have 1,763 messages there. When going to iCloud.com, there's no option to look at messages stored in the cloud. Anybody know a way I can get rid of these messages in iCloud? There seems to be a bug here. Thanks in advance.

Deleted messages go into a holding area or trash bin. Are you deleting them from there as well? On iPhone: Edit > Show Recently Deleted; on Mac: View > Recently Deleted.

Did you tap 'Manage Storage' to turn off and delete them from there? If so, did you wait at least 30 days before turning it back on?

When you 'Turn Off and Delete from iCloud', there's a message that states: "Turn off Messages in iCloud on all your devices. You'll have 30 days to download your messages from iCloud."

You need to wait at least 30 days before they're deleted from iCloud, or else you're just syncing the messages back to your devices when turning it back on.

been an iPhone user since "day 1" currently using iPhone 12 Pro—I just had this problem yesterday when I got an iCloud 'memory almost full' notification!

I've always kept messages set for "30day", and when I delete my messages I also delete from "Recently Deleted". My conversations have been empty but the settings show 11,363 messages in iCloud - 1.39G memory.

Ive tried adjusting the Setting to "save forever", and Im seeing old messages from 8months-2yrs ago coming back to my inbox (read). I delete them and remove from "Recently Deleted" then switched account to "delete older messages after 30 day"—Even a warning pops up saying "older messages will be deleted and unrecoverable". Messages show 0 conversations and still over 11k of iCloud storage or messages?? I did not collect over 11k of messages in the past 30 days. Anything older should have been deleted months, if not—years ago.

This would be an egregious bug if  is trying to hoard memory from our iCloud account to force 'a service upgrade'.

I just tried turning Messages on/off in 'iCloud Storage'... it now shows 0kb "in storage", but still 11k+ "In iCloud". This 11k+ messages are old and somehow stuck in the cloud???

This morning my Storage usage went back to 1.4G ?! —So i turned off iCloud storage.

I see now that you can still use Messages app with iCloud storage turned off (I mistakenly thought it was required).
So as stated earlier (someone please correct me if Im wrong), you need to turn off iCloud storage for 30days in order to erase all the Messages in iCloud storage.

this is ridiculous! At some point in the last few weeks/months??,  must have changed something about iCloud storage or there is an issue with the server releasing/deleting old messages. In the past, my storage usage was ALWAYS low to non-existent since I was utilizing the "delete after 30 days" setting and removing "recent Deleted" messages.

The user should have the ability to delete their files/messages from the server without this boondoggle.
