Occasionally in Mail the new mail sound doesn't play when I get new mail. Is this happening to anybody else?

Problem w/ New mail Sound

Seems to work about 1 in 20 times - a feature of Leopard it seems.
Used to work all the time in Tiger (from memory)
Maybe 10.5.3 will fix it ?
Thanks for the response. It's so annoying not having that notification. I had to resort to using Mail Unread Menu, not a big fan of icon badges.
To be frank, I am running Tiger, and I have also had this issue. Still haven't found a workaround.
I also have this problem, but back in the ancient, unheard of, Panther (*gasp*)! Yes I still use Panther.
I've decided not to use the mail.app but would really like to have the new mail sound in my new email app. Where can i find the "new mail sound" on my computer? I've looked in the sounds folder with all the other sounds but its's not there. Please help. I would like to keep the sound consistent with my iphone and new mail application. Thanks!
the new mail sound can be found under applications, right click mail - show package contents, contents, resources, look for newmail.aiff
There are a total of 4 .aiff files.
if you plan on changing the volume for these look online for the audacity trick, good luck

Double check your sound preferences
Apple introduced 'alert volume' in the sound preference panel under sound effects. Make sure this is all the way up... seems like a simple thing but I just fixed this for someone that had the same issue of not hearing mail sounds.
