Problem when searching in mail

I’m seeing a weird issue when searching in the mail app on my iPhone X running 11.1 (please see attached). Tapping on the x or cancel does nothing and I have to kill the app completely in order to get it working again. Anyone else seeing this?

This has been killing me through the last 2 updates. I can't believe this is still an issue.

For more context, I have 2 inbox's synced, an Exchange Server and Gmail, I have tried increasing the font size a bit but that didn't help.

I am now going to try and delete gmail and see if that helps...
