Problem with 15'' MBP screen. please help!

Hi everyone,

I have an early 2008 MBP (last model before unibody) which started a random dimming/flickering screen brightness a few weeks ago. The problem is happening sometimes but not always. When it occurs, a simple restart once or twice solves the issue until a few instances later. The screen looks like below.

The dimming stays as is, does not change or move.

Do you know what the problem is? It is only visible when os x boots (blue screen before desktop, not on white loading screen).
