I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this. Not sure if it should go under Mavericks or app store.
I'm really stuck and would appreciate any guidance.
I was using Snow Leopard for years on my MBP and not once did I use the app store UNTIL I decided to upgrade to Mavericks. I downloaded Mavericks okay and installed.
I noticed I was prompted for updates in the appstore and while I had entered MY Apple ID info, I was getting login for someone else who I didn't recognize. I was not able to change the login name. I tried doing research and stumbled on a forum where someone suggested deleting the app and reinstalling. I thought they meant the "app store" app. In hindsight, I think they may have meant the app that was prompting me for the login information when I tried to update.
So, I used "app zapper" to remove the "app store" which I later find out cannot be removed because it's part of Maverick. What app zapper did is move the following files in the trash:
One "app store" folder that contains a file called: updatejournal.plist
One "AppStore" folder that contains a file called: manifest.plist
And a file called com.apple.appstore.plist
The app store icon is gone from my applications folder and clicking on "updating my software" via the apple menu does nothing (it's supposed to launch app store). So clearly I screwed up big time.
How do I get app store back?
I have a time machine version with Snow Leopard that I did right before I downloaded Mavericks. I would really hate to have to go through that again if I don't have to.
