Composite cables have red, white and yellow connectors with one prong each. Component cables look similar, but are red, green and blue. Not interchangeable.
 
Yeah, you have the wrong the cable for your TV. Buy the correct one (composite).

But component also has an extra red and white for audio.

They serve the same purpose, carry data between a device and a display. Both are analogue.

Composite (RWY) can only do 480i/p and 576i/p (standard definition).
However, component (RGBRW) can handle high-definition content (480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, and 1080p).

If your TV is standard definition it will not have component inputs.
 
So have gotten around to trying this out, and as it stands it works with my ipad but wont work with the iPod touch 3rd gen down.

With the iPod touch all i get is the audio, weird thing is a friend tried it for me and he go video but no audio.

again any help greatly appreciated.
