Problem with downloading files

Hi; I have a 24" IMAC with OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) and for the past few weeks suddenly having problems with downloading files from Filesonic or Rapidshare or other servers. It starts downloading and stops abruptly after 4Kb ...
Any ideas or remedies? Thanks in advance

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. Are you using any download manager software?

turn off your antivirus software when you want to download a file

First, as a Mac user, you don't need antivirus software. Second, antivirus wouldn't cause a download in progress to stop.
