problem with external hard drive

I have recently bought an external hard drive "my book" 320 GB /7200.
It works fine but when i went to put some of my films on it,it took for ever to transfer the files i mean 6 hours for 10GBs.
i have an imac G4 1gb ram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any usb 2.0 ports? If not that's probably the reason

I have a G4 too, and I know it's not USB 2.0.
I believe it is USB 1.1.

That is the problem why it's so slow. But hey, at least it is backward compatible.
