Problem with FileVault

hope someone can help me. I need to turn off FileVault, when i try i get the message:

An error occurred during encryption (an error occurred during copying). Filevault will be turned on for this account...

any idea how i might get around this? the password i used is definitely right. i tried moving some of the stuff out of my home directory and turning it off again, but it still didnt work.
