I am using an HP 2711 monitor as a secondary display for a mid 2007 20" iMac and a Lenovo Z570 laptop, through the HP's HDMI port. On the iMac I have a Dynex miniDisplayport to HDMI adapter, while the Lenovo has HDMI built in.

The HDMI cables go to a Porta HDMI 3 to 1 Switch

Before installing the HDMI switch, each computer was hooked up to the HP panel straight through, and there was no problem with the video running in either mirror or extended mode from the iMac or the laptop.

The laptop has no issues with the switch, working on any of the 3 ports. However, the iMac doesn't display on the HP in either mirror or extended desktop. System Preferences - Monitors does recognize the HP monitor and provides all the resolutions and shows it when you "Gather" displays.

Also, the iMac, in extend desktop mode, allows the mouse to scroll to the HP monitor, since the mouse does not stop or bounce off the edge of the built in monitor, but continues to scroll off the screen and it takes an equal amount of movement to get the mouse back onto the built in screen.

Is it possible that the switch needs to be powered? Any suggestions regarding the problem would be appreciated. Thanks.
