I have a 1st gen iPhone. The touch screen works, but its kind of wacky in a very precise manner. Most of the time if I press a button to turn the screen on, and try to slide to unlock the screen will be unresponsive. If I press the top button twice (screen flicks off then back on), it will work without a doubt. This happens a lot during iPod use. It's a huge annoyance because when people call me I can barely ever answer, I have to cancel the call and call them back. It seems like a software error to me but has anyone else encountered a problem like this?

Restore did nothing.
