iPod Problem with iPod and iTunes

Hey guys, im having trouble with my 5G iPod 30GB. In iTunes when I first plug it in, it says its updating, then the iPod icon in the source menu blinks red. Then it says iPod update complete, and it stops blinking. So I then decide to add songs. I try to add 700 or so songs and I have over 12GB left on my iPod, but when it says its done, I unplug it, it says i have only 2900, when i should about 3600. Any idea what may cause this? its making me really mad

1. Make sure all the songs in your library are checked ('ticked') on the left hand side;

2. Check in Preferences (when your iPod is connected) make sure you're not set up to only sync certain playlists;

3. Check in Preferences (when your iPod is connected) make sure you're not set up to only sync checked ('ticked') songs;

4. Check in Preferences (when your iPod is connected) make sure you're not set up to only sync 25 songs from each playlist;
