Problem with Mac The Ripper 3.0 not working with external dvd drive

Just bought an LG external dvd drive because my superdrive in my mac is starting to die. Now when i go to rip a dvd in mac the ripper using my lg external, it recognizes the dvd but it doesnt scan it or give me the option to "GO". Has anyone else had this problem? please help
