Hi there, i have a macbook pro 2017 (thankfully with applecare). This macbook has 4 usb c ports. Today i realised that the 3 works perfectly, but the fourth recognises the original apple charging cable and adapter only one way. if i reverse the cable, then the mac is not charging. Obviously this is not normal for the usb c port.

Apple told me its not a software issue given that the same happens even if i try to go to recovery mode (when i press command and r, still the same think appears in the upper right part of the screen where is the charging symbol. In the one way is charging but when i reverse the cable not).

Long story short, they told me to go to the service however im in my last days of PhD and writing like a crazy so im thinking about the days needed to complete the repair etc.

any idea what may be wrong? Is it a repair that may entail another part of the mac (for example battety, keyboard etc?)

If you want to get it repaired, get it repaired.

But I'd just put a mark on the charging cable, to identify "which side is up".
Then I'd be careful that side was up when I plugged it into the "4th port". ;)
