Problem with MS Word 2008

Hi everyone. Long time reader/lurker, first time poster.

I have a shiny new MacBook Pro running Leopard. I installed MS Office 2008 for Mac a few weeks ago and all was going well until earlier today. I was using Word and I wanted to place the "word count" icon from the "tools" menu list onto the main Word toolbar. I did this and all was working well, but I stupidly managed to delete the word count icon from the Word toolbar. Word count has now disappeared from my tools menu.

After trying to fix this problem for about an hour I tried an experiment. I moved "thesaurus" from the "tools" menu to the Word toolbar and then deleted the icon from the toolbar. Thesaurus then disappeared from the tools menu.

I uninstalled MS Office 2008 totally and then reinstalled fully but the problem still remains. I cant find either thesaurus or word count in Word 2008 anymore!!!

So has anyone heard of this problem??? How can I fix it?

Have you tried deleting your preferences file?

Try deleting this from your account:
Library->Preferences->com.microsoft.Word.plist

I tried looking for that file earlier today but had some trouble finding it.

I cant try now as I'm away from my Mac for the next few hours :-(

What happens if I cant find "Library->Preferences->com.microsoft.Word.plist" or it's not there?

How to get down to it

Start navigating at the Mac HD and go down to Users and select yourself.
Within that directory is Library and in there is Preferences.
You'll find it!

Guys, I found the "Library->Preferences->com.microsoft.Word.plist" and deleted it but I still have the same problem.

I also looked here and followed all instructions, but this didnt work either.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need word count.

I've never heard of a problem like this before. Since you're obviously pretty desperate to get a quick answer, your best bet is to call tech support. You get two free calls to tech support with your purchase of Office 2008.
