Problem with Notes in Mac Mail

When I create a new note in Notes in Mac Mail the new note not only appears in Notes, but also in Inbox. Since I don't need it in Inbox, I delete it. When I delete it in Inbox, the note is deleted in Notes.

I create new note by clicking on New Note icon. Type the note, then click on red dot in upper left to remove Notes from screen.

Why is the new note appearing in both Notes and Inbox.

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong (No news there )

Any help would be appreciated...

I had a similar issue with my new MacAir, After syncing a 2nd time the notes disappeared off mail and my iPhone 4 , I then resynced with iTunes and tried replacing sync data to no avail" Ive lost all my notes.

It's fixed.

Applecare came through.

I see you've already got the answer to your problem but for those that want to know how you did it...

To have notes only appear in the Notes mailbox:

Go to Mail menu
Go to Preferences...
Go to the Accounts tab
Go to Mailbox Behaviors tab
In the Notes section, uncheck Show Notes in Inbox
Repeat for each account
Close Preferences...

I have tried this and I still see HUNDREDS of duplicate notes that I've tried deleting numerous times. Now that I have LION, I can't even find the offline files/folders to try and delete the "on my mac" files.

Any further help with this?
