Hi all,
I've a bit of a problem. In short the computer hangs at the apple logo and spinning thingy for about 5 minutes and then restarts with out turning on.

For the full story: I began running into problems with permissions yesterday trying to install updates for Civ IV when it was telling me i didn't have sufficient permission. As I tried to fix it through disk utility I lost the ability to read my external hard drive (when i could 5 minutes before) and it began to give error messages when I tried to fix permissions. Eventually I got Civ working and was a happy camper until this morning when I tried to download the new Safari. When I tried to install it i was told I did not have the required permission. I then tried to restart the computer at which point It begun to hang.

I booted up into disk utility and tried to repair permission but it told me it couldn't find any packages on my partition. I have a Linux partition and I can boot up into that at the moment but I still can't get into my external hard drive (which I could before).

Any one have any ideas? I'm thinking I might have to get another external hard drive, back up what I have and wipe but I really can't aford a new one right now...

Thanks
