I was playing music and suddenly screen went off but music was still playing. Turned off and back on but screen does not display anything although can hear system running. It does go slightly grey after about 5 secs of turning on and if I tap the back of the screen you see white flicks up and back off. It's a 2008 MacBook pro serial number w8130eq1sg. Many thanks. Karl

If it's an Early 2008 (pre-unibody) model, it may be a dead NVIDIA GPU (common issue). My Early 2008 MBP had two logic board replacements because of this issue: one under warranty, and one under recall.

Unfortunately, Apple ended its complimentary warranty extension on this back in 2012, so you may be SOL, outside of paying for a repair. And for a laptop that old, it's probably not the most economical option... :(
