Problem with SD card

I just bought a 8GB SD card to install the SL installer so I can get rid of my optical drive.

I put it in and when I format as Journaled or Case sensitive Journaled is says that only 2.22 out of the 8GB is available. When I format in exFAT is works just fine.

I put it in a Windows machine and it let me delete the partition on it but wouldn't let me make a new one.

Any ideas whats going on here?

What exact SD card do you use and what exact Mac OS X version do you use Disk Utility with?

It is a Kingston 8GB ultimate 100x. I'm using the Lion seed, but I would expect the Disk Utility to work.

It seems to only happen when I use the GUID option. It automatically blocks off 6GB.
