Problem with SMS being marked read on other devices since activating eSIM.

So yesterday I activated an eSIM on my phone for the T-Mobile trial since I’ve actually been thinking of switching and I noticed that - while SMS forwarding is working - whenever I read a message on my iPhone it isn’t updating on my iPad and Apple Watch. It’s odd because they’re receiving the entire thread including my replies back, but I’ll open up my iPad and be greeted with 8-10 unread messages only to find they’ve all been replied to. This only started happening after I began using the eSIM and only with SMS, iMessages are unaffected. Is this normal for a phone using an eSIM and physical SIM?
