Problem with texting pictures

I am suddenly having a problem with my 3G when I send a picture. The sending indicator bar gets to about 95%, then stops. A few seconds later, a red "!" pops up in the message box along with the notation "SENDING FAILURE". This does NOT happen with a "TEXT ONLY" transmission.
Can anyone help?

Is your 3G data on?
 
I have even re-booted the 3g, but to no avail.
The problem started after I downloaded an update to iOS 5.1
