Hi everyone;
First of all, I apologize for the "generic" title of this post, but I don't know which word to use in English to explain this problem.

Today I turned on the iMac G5 of my collection, after a couple of months sited on the table turned off and covered with a plastic cover, and I found these strange spot, blur, stain (I really don't know which word Is the correct 😜), in the screen. Could it be humidity? I kept the iMac on for a few minutes but it didn't disappear. Or probably the LCD is just dying?

Regards!

I've never seen that before. Humidity and moisture can be the death of electronics and generally putting a plastic cover over something in a humid environment will make things much worse.

yeah, I know. but I don't live in a humid environment. actually the weather it's pretty dry in my city. I keep it covered because of the dust. I think I'm gonna try to keep it on for a couple of days and see what happen.

That's a good idea. Do you have a dehumidifier? It might be worth putting it in a small confined area and regulated the humidity so it slowly brings it back to normal

Fungus growth. You can take it apart and clean it if you want.

Did you ever find the cause and a solution to the splotchy looking screen? I would love to know. Same thing happened to the LCD screen from my old G5. I do photography and found that a second screen comes in handy in some cases. I have it plugged into my iMac since I no longer use my G5...but I had not used the old monitor in a while....maybe a month or so, and when I turned it on yesterday, it looked almost exactly like your screen. So far, you're the only image I can find in online forums that actually looks the same as the problem I'm having. Please let me know if you figured it out and if you were able to resolve the issue. Thanks! ~Wayne

Hi Antonio. yeah, I think I found the cause and a solution to this problem. seems to be the "vinegar lcd syndrome", a problem with air moisture in the polarizer film of the display. I'll definitely try to fix mine when I have some free time. check out this video:

Thank you for the prompt response Marcos. This "vinegar lcd syndrome", is unusual. I was hoping there might be an easier fix. Changing out the polarizing film seems like a tedious task that may still result in 'bubbles' or other irregularities if I didn't install perfectly. I guess I should finally break down and get a new second screen. I certainly had many years of service out of this one. Thanks again.

yeah....I'm with second thoughts about this. :confused: seems like a lot of work to end up with bubbles in the screen. it's a lot more easy just replace the screen.
