I have a Macbook Pro which I have been trying to backup to a La Cie external hard drive with Time Machine. When I first connected it and started Time Machine, it asked to format the drive, so I let it. Ive got as far as 70gb out of 80, then it just hangs, at the last try it backed up 2kb in 20 minutes.

I have excluded it from spotlight, have no virus checkers. Still wont do that last 10gigs. Ive tried deleting the incomplete backup, but now if I info the drive, it says that there is still 40gb used, even though when I open it, there seems to be nothing there.

How can I completely erase the contents of the drive and start over? When I connect it now, it doesnt come up as a La Cie drive, it comes up as Time Machine Backup, and I cant see any options to erase and re-format.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you. Ive tried that now. Still keeps hanging on the last 10gb.

You think it is the drive itself? But if I just drag files onto it without using Time Machine it works fine...
