Problem with update to 2.0.2 - error 43

Hi,

I keep getting error 43 when I try to upgrade my first generation iPhone from firmware 1.1.4 when it tries to backup the original data.

I thought I got that this means to sufficient space on backup volume (on a Windows XP machine), but also freeing some space so that I got now ~4Gb free, and also un-checking "sync music" so that the iPhone only hold ~300Mb data, did not fix this!

How can I upgrade the iPhone safely without losing all my contacts, etc.?!
