I asked about this problem a while ago but still haven't found a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling leopard yet. My USB ports are not functioning at 2.0 speeds. I can confirm this through itunes synching as well as file transfers from an external hard drive. The average transfer speed seems to be around 1.5 mb/sec, which is in line with USB 1.0 speeds. This leads me to the conclusion that I don't have USB 2.0 drivers installed and since I haven't been able to find them online, it seems like the only solution that I have is to reinstall the OS.

In addition, my new ipod nano 4g seems to cause a kernel panic whenever I plug it into the USB port. This is the message when I attach it to my MBP: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."

I have a feeling that both problems might be related but as of right now, I have no proof. All I know is, resetting the SMC doesn't solve the problem. So my question is this: Is there any way to fix this without reinstalling Leopard?

Just tried resetting permissions for fun, got nowhere.

Here's the technical information. Hope someone here can interpret the problem from this...
