Let me start by saying that I've already searched a bit and am still fairly new to using os x/macs. Alright well what happened is my macbook 4,1 (running 10.6.2) froze eventually leaving me no alternative but to do a hard shutdown. Ever since I've been having problems getting os x to boot up. It booted up like normal once but hasn't done it again. It will either get stuck at the blue screen or makes it to the log in screen. However, after typing in my user name and password it goes back to the blue screen for a second and the takes me back to the login screen again. It will do this over and over.
I've managed to get in via safe mode, while there I repaired disk permissions and verafied the the start up disk and removed all my startup apps. I also set it to auto login. After doing all this I restarted and it seemed to boot up and work fine once more. However, after a restart it stopped working again. It will login but in but nothing work right. The wallpaper is a blue screen like on login, the dock is missing and everything is really slow. It takes about 3-5 minutes just to open a finder window.
Safe boot usually works but sometimes it'll be missing the dock. When this happens it's also very slow like on a normal boot up, (when it does actually login). I've managed to back everything up but would like try and just get it working if possible. Again I've tried repair disk permissions, verify startup disk/hard drive, removed all startup programs/apps and set it to auto login. Any new ideas would be appreciated, thanks.
