iPod Problems converting XVID .avi's to iPod

Hey every1,
I cannot figure out a way to convert all of my Divx/XVID .avi's i have ripped from DVD's into the format iPod uses. I've been using ffmpegX as my converter and following this tutorial: http://howto.diveintomark.org/ipod-porn-conversion-guide/ . Any ideas?
