Problems Detecting Display

I'm having issues with my macbook deecting display. im using a mini dp to hmi adapter followed by hdmi cable plugged into the back on my tv. Im trying to connect to my LG tv. My macbook flashes blue on the screen but no image appears on the screen. I tried changing hdmi ports and plugging cable in and out and still nothing.. need help please respond

Currently Running Macbook Late '09 model 2.26 GHZ on OSX 10.7.2
