Hi, I have an iMac from 10 years ago and a Sony HDV Handycam camera.

With this same computer and this camera I have imported videos using a firewire cable and the iMovie program.

However, a year ago the computer broke down, slowed down and the color on the screen stopped being visible, it was impossible to use, so I reinstalled the software with the CD that was in the pack when I bought the computer, the MacOS X Leopard, now seems to work properly.

But now I have tried to import videos as I used to do with the same camera and the same cable, but iMovie doesn't recognize the camera, however, the camera does recognize the cable connected to the computer, since the iLINK appears on the screen.

I don't know what could be the problem, the cable is somewhat broken, but it is very little , I put duct tape, I thought maybe that is the problem, although I also doubt it. Another thing I have thought is that maybe I need more system updates.

What could be the problem ?

How can I import videos from my Handycam to the iMac?

Thank you .

Hmmm... this is an interesting problem you have. What version of iMovie are you using?

I have a variety of Sony SD DV camcorders that I've hooked up to my various Macs and I've never had a connection issue like what you're describing.

The version of Imovie that I have is 8.0.6 (821) (iMovie '09)
With this same computer, cable and camera I could import videos a long time ago, but not now.

Hmmm... That's interesting. Try Installing iMovie HD 6 (that's what I use) and see if that helps. If not, maybe try a different computer?

I have already tried the iMovie HD6, and it's the same, just read the iSight camera, but not the camera that I connected with the cable. I don't know if there is any adjustment in the system that I must change.

I do not have another computer for this camera, I have tried to connect another camcorder and the problem is the same. I have thought that the only solution now is to buy another firewire cable, because this may not work, it looks somewhat broken. I hope that is it the problem.

The surprising is that the camera does recognize when I connect it to the computer and the iLINK appears on the camcorder screen.

Ok, that is a good next logical step. I wish you the best with your endeavor :)
