I've been having a problem where when I turn on my macbook pro, it doesn't get past the white screen with the apple logo. I'm planning on reinstalling OS X, but before I do that, I want to back up some important files onto a USB drive. I know absolutely nothing about the mac command line, so I used this online tutorial on accessing USB drives in single-user mode. I followed the steps and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried using the command "/sbin/mount_exfat /dev/disk1s2 /Volumes/usbdrive". I got the following error message:

"Failed to load /System/Library/Extensions/exfat.kext - (libkern/kext) authentication failure (file ownership/permissions).
mount_exfat: exfat filesystem is not available"

What does this mean and what do I do about it?
