i'm trying to get filesharing to work so that i can share files between my new macbook and my vista 64 pc desktop. ive made sure i have the settings in my macbook and pc right to have file sharing on. but i cant get the two machines to play together.

maybe it's because of this?

i have my desktop pc connected to my wireless router using an ethernet cable. and connecting to the internet on my macbook using wireless. could this be a problem for filesharing?

or maybe bc im using a crappy router. its a Linksys WRT150N. ive read reviews online that this router kind of sucks.

can someone point me in the right direction or let me know if i am missing something obvious? maybe networking the two computers are more complicated than i thought it would be so i should spend more time playing with the settings? thanks for your help.

In what way do you connect one computer to the other?

Mac OS X > Vista or Vista > Mac OS X?

Do you use the proper protocol (SMB, ....)?

Can you ping each other? (to see if they can see each other, regardless of protocol)

Mac OS X > Terminal (Utilities) > ping (IP address of the Vista computer)

Vista > Prompt (if it still exist, or the successor) > ping (IP Address of the MacBook)
