I've been having the following problems at startup. Either of the following occurs:

1) fan noise comes on for 3 seconds and keeps cycling for approximately 1 minute, then power light goes solid but there is no chime and computer does not start up

2) fan noise comes on but power light flashes at about 1/2 second intervals, computer does not start up

3) fan noise cycles once or twice and computer starts up

Originally I thought I had bad ram as I bought some memory a few months ago. I took "bad" ram out and everything seemed to be working fine. I then put only bad ram in and it also started up fine a few times. Not sure if the ram has anything to do with it but taking it out and putting it back in seems to temporarily allow me to keep using the computer.

All help appreciated.

Does it work fine without the "bad" ram? If so take the RAM back. The sticks most likely are damaged and only show it when the damaged area is being used. You will get varying behaviors.
