Problems reconnecting to LAN after using airport

I am using a MAC Book Pro running OS X. Used mostly at work on LAN. But recently started using it at home via Airport. Now I find back at work & plugged into the LAN, when I change network preferences back to my "Work" setting I can no longer reconnect. Tried using the assistant and diagnostics buttons, but no help. The MAC confirms that I am connected to the internet. any suggestions?

You say the mac says you are connected to the internet, despite not being able to reconnect? I'm slightly confused by this!

The few network adapter issues I've had in the past have generally been remedied by rebooting the computer. Have you tried this?
