I'm trying to move from an 11 Pro Max to a 12 Pro Max and I can't get my WhatsApp backup reloaded.
I back up my 11 Pro Max to iCloud from within WhatsApp and the backup completes successfully with a 1.8GB backup and after completion WhatsApp on my 11 Pro Max shows the last backup as having being taken just minutes before hand at the expected size.
I then install WhatsApp on my 12 Pro Max and during the WhatsApp installation it asks if I want to restore a backup from iCloud so I say yes but the backup it sees from the new phone is one taken on 7th August which is way out of date. I've checked in iCloud storage management and WhatsApp is using 1.8GB of my allowance so the latest backup definitely seems to be on iCloud.
I've switched my WhatsApp active device between my old and new phone quite a few times now trying to sort stuff out and annoyingly after too many attempts WhatsApp makes you wait before it will allow you to reactivate a device. Right now I'm in the middle of a 24 hours timeout before I can re-activate my old phone.
I did try using AnyTrans to transfer the WhatsApp backup from my iCloud backup and it correctly found the latest 1.8GB backup on iCloud, downloaded it to my PC and started to transfer it to my iPhone but at one stage in the transfer it said it was rebooting the device and the restore would complete afterwards but my iPhone went into a seriously bad reboot loop (constantly alternating between blank screen and Apple logo about every 5 to 10 seconds with no way to restart or even power off). I had to do a DFU recovery, twice in fact because the first firmware re-flash didn't fix it for some reason but the second one did. After getting so dangerously close to totally bricking my new 12 Pro Max I'm not trying that again!
I think my next step, once I get access to my WhatsApp account again at about 11pm tonight, will be to delete the iCloud backup completely and create a new backup from my old iPhone and see if WhatsApp on my new phone will then see that.
Has anyone else had similar difficulties moving the WhatsApp backup to a new phone and did you find any solution?
