Problems Resotring Ipod. DFU wont work

So here's the rundown.

My girlfriend just gave me her old iphone 3 which she hasn't used in a few months.

I tried just doing the simple restore where you hold down the home button but that didn't work. I then entered dfu mode and tried again but it still hasn't worked and I constantly get error 23.

Any Ideas?
