Problems starting AIM

Hi all. I did a search on this issue and did not find anything. Occasionally when I start Aim, the program goes into some sort of loop where it can't complete the start up process. I'm not even sure how to describe this, but it gets to the point where it plays the start up sound and then coninues to do so repeatedly. The only resolution is to reboot the machine. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I didn't know anybody still used AIM

Should I use something else instead. Can it communicate with my friends on AIM, Yahoo, etc?
