I have recently started doing a bit of work on audio for video, mixing in 5.1.

I have an M-Audio external sound card which can handle up to 7.1, this is fine in the mixing stage and works perfectly, but when coming to watch back through "dvd player" or VLC i cant seem to get it to play back in the surround sound. the only way i can do this, i think, is to select the digital out put but i do not have a digital amplifier.

Is there any way of setting up the surround sound so that i can have it running through my analog outputs of my firewire 410? using either dvd player or vlc, or some other free software?
