Problems with Automator

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with Automator running very slow on certain automations (and often beachballing)? When I try to run a recorded macro that does 100 replacements, it is so time consuming that it is just easier to write a program to format the data the way I want it formatted. Has anyone else experienced Automator slowing the show down on simple replacements (but lots at a time)?
