Hi to all,
I'm trying to access this chat http://www.terravista.pt/entrada_chat.html

Whenever I go to one of the chat rooms, the encoding isn't correct for that one. If I run parallels and use IE it works ok.

I've tried Firefox, Opera and Safari, and still no luck... I've tried with both OSX and Ubuntu, changed the JRE in Ubuntu to 1.4.2 and no luck as well....

Do you have any idea of what can it be?

The funny thing is if I write something with strange characters like "pão" it works nicely, but if someone else writes it it appears as the screenshot.

Thanks for your help!!!

I figured that this doesn't happen in Windows because it's using the 1.4.2 jre

How can I install the jre 1.4.2 and force my firefox to use it?

I dont think jre has font embeded in it, so i dont think it will work as you thought.

Humm but then what can exactly be the explanation? it sounds strange that in windows for IE or Firefox it works nice, but on every other OS it doesn't.

I was talking to some people and what they suggested was that maybe the encoding for applets is driven by the encoding of the Operating System as well. That would make a certain sense.

How can I change the encoding?
