Problems with external monitor

Hi guys

i tried to contact my MBP 13" to a HP w2408h via a Mini DP to hdmi

but my external monitor came out flickering and rendered both my displays unreadable

after a while my external unit displayed source out of range

but with the MBP also in blue screen i was unable to change the resolution of the external display

any kind souls here who had similar experiences?
