Hi,

I own a macbook pro 13" retina and I have recently bought an external monitor (Samsung 28") which I have connected with a Displayport cable.
Now everything is fine when i close the macbook pro , I have picture from the macbook on my external screen.

The problem is this.....
When I unhook the powercable from the macbook pro within a couple of seconds my picture disappears and the external monitor says there is no signal !
I have tried to change settings in the power management but nothing works.....

Does this mean that the macbook pro always needs to be on the powersupply ????
That can't be too good for the battery I think.....

When in clam shell mode it needs to be connected to power or it will go to sleep.

Leaving on charge will not wear out the battery. There are a bunch of threads about battery life and a member who regularly responds to those threads with some good background material on batteries.
