Anyone having problems accessing gmail in Safari today? When I try to access the sign-in page, it tells me that "Safari can’t open the page “http://mail.google.com/mail/” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet."

I am clearly connected to the internet.

Also, my Mail.app cannot connect to my gmail account and neither can my GPeek widget.

However, I have no problem accessing gmail via Firefox.

I have noticed this problem a few times over the past 2-3 weeks, but though it was a google issue. Today was the first time I thought of trying to access gmail via Firefox, and it does, which points to Safari.

Anyone else with this problem?

Of course, now that I've finished typing this up, I can access gmail via Safari with no problems.

So now, I guess my question is has anyone had this problem in the past 2-3 weeks as well?

Works for me. i was just sending mail from Mail.app through Gmail account and everything is OK. Im also logged in into gmail chat through Adium

Yeah it's working for me now too. I'm wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences with gmail that could help to explain what has happened to me. It makes me nervous if my email is unreliable.

Thanks for the input :)

Yeah it happened few days/weeks? ago. But I think it wasnt Safari issue. Cos I tried Camino as well and wasn't able to log in as well. I thiknk server was down for some time.

working fine for me, although I do have another google issue in safari that i've noticed over the past few days..

clicking on any paid links (right hand side) on a google search doesn't work properly..

ie. search for Apple on google.com: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=apple&btnG=Search

click on the right hand paid link and you get "Safari can't open the page....."

Thats the feature. Apple protects you from ads and spam:D

I have had a long history of problems with Safari and Gmail, and that is why I discontinued using Safari (although I like it better because it seems to have better performance than other browsers). I also have problems with other sites such as mail.yahoo.ca as I will enter into an infinite loop of entering in my username/password and clicking "login" only to be brought back to the same login page. I also had problems with logging onto my bank website to do online banking, so something tells me that it has problems with SSL.

another gmail / safari problem

i'm not getting _all_ my email. (i.e. a few, but not all) using POP mail.

i tried to check my gmail account on the net and got the message "loading (my email).com........." and it just freezes there!

sometimes i'm able to look at my inbox on the gmail site, but there are only a couple of new messages (whereas there should be more).

i seem to be able to send mail ok. the safari and gmail preferences seem to be correct.

the gmail help matrix suggests that my mail could be "compromised".
(what the heck is that?)

any suggestions would be appreciated/

Gmail/Safari

I have been having problems for about 2 weeks. I'll be using on my gmail and reading an email and then I click to go back to my mail and it just freezes up. I get so mad as I'll be right in the middle of something and I'll have to shut everything down. When I have several windows open (and I always do) it is a huge inconvenience.

Even now as I am typing on this forum, it keeps switching me back to my gmail. Even though it is frozen, it just goes back to the page.

I have to open Firefox and I don't like it near as well.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Its driving me nuts.

Same thing is happening to me too. Gmail won't load in S4B. Tried resetting and nothing loads. Just shows nothing. Any solutions?

Fixed!

Did some digging, and here's how to fix this Gmail issue in Safari 4:

Uninstall Google Gears!!

Try it. Go to Safari, Google Gears Settings, then remove the listed accounts and apply. DONE!

I uninstalled (deleted) the google gears plugin and now it works.

Thanks for the help iphoneCDN!
