Ok so i have a caddy with a hdd in it correctly installed into the space inside my macbook early 2008 white.

upon booting up i get the error message;

"the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

the disk had 4 partitions on it, with all my media and apps, which i had been accessing by using it as an external hdd in a usb caddy.

should it have been blank/empty when i inserted it? does lion have to format a new disk in its optical slot before its useable?

also, it does show up in disk utility, although not with any partitions, and the only non-greyed out buttons are "erase"
