I have a 1st generation 8GB ipod touch. I am really wanting to jailbreak but every time i do my ipod ends up crashing and i have to restore. I have about 3 pages worth of apps from the app store, but I wouldn't think that would be the cause of the problem because I have heard of others with many more than that. I am using the program quickpwn for windows to jailbreak and my ipod is running software 2.1. Do any of you all have any ideas for why I am having so many problems? The past 2 times I have jailbroken my ipod has crashed within 30 minutes. I have no problems whatsoever when it's not jailbroken, so it must have something to do with the jail breaking process. I have not heard of anyone else having any sort of problems like this, so I am confused about what I could be doing wrong. Like I said before, I really want to jailbreak because of the themes and all, but if I am going to have to restore every 30 minutes it just doesn't make sense. Please leave any suggestions you can think of that may be the cause of the problem and how I could fix this. Thanks in advance.

Don't jailbreak period. It's a waste of time and pointless. Use your touch for what it was meant for, to play media. Themes were created so people would spend a bunch of time to make it look cool and to show off. Jailbreaking makes the entire device unstable and buggy/laggy/slow. My friend's iPod touch 1st generation was buggy and laggy, when you moved from page to page on the home screen was choppy, and he restored twice from jailbroken stage.

If you really have your eyes set on jailbreaking (its in the grey area in terms of legality) use PwnageTool. QuickPwn is automated so there might compatibility issues or something. I'm even sure if 2.1 was jailbroken yet. But again, that was like 1 month ago, so correct me if I'm wrong.

quickpwn is the easiest and quickest method to jailbreaking it gives you on screen instructions on what to do once u followed them wait about 2 - 5 mins and your jailbroken without having to restore and loose all your apps and media off the ipod like you would with pwnagetool.

I understand your point, but that really is a matter of opinion. There are some useful advantages to jailbreaking, other than the themes. Obviously the majority of others arent having the same problems as me because I was unable to find any other threads that described these issues. I am really just looking for opinions as to why my iPod is acting so weird and how I could fix it.

Completely Subjective. I pwned my iPod Touch with 7 pages of apps and its been snappier than usual. I love the themes and apps you just can't get in the app store.

^ Well thats just my experience. There are some exceptions but some apps on jailbroken iPods/iPhones are illegal cracked versions of paid apps in the app store. I never said that it was true for all jailbroken devices, just a few of my friends'.

To the OP: Try restoring the iPod to official firmware, and then reset the entire device. Then restore it again and then jailbreak.

If it crashes everytime, then try backing up and restoring you ipod. When it asks you to set the ipod up...x out of itunes and use quickpwn and jailbreak your device. Once it's done jailbreaking, you can open itunes and use it:)

hope this helps
