Problems with Mac Mail. Won't take my accounts online. Help pls

For the last 3 days neither of my macs (imac running mac os 10.6.8 and Black book running snow leopard too) simply won't take my account online.

I have a .mac acount, but so far there was no issue with it.

I can check my email fine on my iphone and on icloud dot com, but they won't download to my computers.

I tried erasing the accounts and adding them again, but no luck

Help please.

This has been an issue for several months now and it seems the problem stems from Apple's servers. I have half a dozen iCloud accounts I migrated from @mac and @me and the problem has become so annoying that I've moved all critical email to gmail.
