Problems with mail server

Hi I have a mac OS X 10.5.8 which I've had for a few years now and I have to say I'm not very technical. Over the last week everytime I log in to look at my mac mail I get a message saying server can't recognise password. I have recently set up a google account for email and the problems seemed to coincide with this. Everytime I select the mail option I have to put in my password. Can anyone tell me how I can sort this out.

Secondly this mac is shared with the family and recently other family members have lost their icons for iphoto and Mail. How do we reinstate them?
