First i'll say i'm using fcp for the first time in about 4 years so i have forgotten a lot.
I'm doing a short video with clips, images and audio from all over. I finished the first 1:45 but the whole project got incredibly slow - no idea why - in the past i've made infinitely more complicated videos with no problem. ( i actually used a few .flv video files which did work (including audio - i think that's due to a codec i got some time back) but i suspect required a tremendous amount from the system). anyways, i had to export the first 1:45 to be able to start a new project so i could continue on with the video.
the exported .mov file is fine. it plays in quicktime and imports fine in fcp. HOWEVER, if i put it into a new fcp project i lose almost all the quality. of course it needs rendering but even if i go to a point in the unrendered video to see the image quality it still is horrible. I've tested it out and this happens with any .mov file.
I really don't remember changing any presets a few weeks ago when i started but in the original project (in the original sequence) all the .mov react and look fine, including my exported version.
Right now my way around the problem is to make a copy of my old project file, delete everything in the browser (except the now empty sequence itself) and timeline then work with the .mov files there - which then work fine. Obviously i have checked all the sequence settings and project settings and they seem to the same for both my old project and the new one that doesn't work with the .mov files.
this is the format of the .mov file:
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
H.264, 720 x 480, Millions
..but i don't think that is the problem because the same thing happens with other smaller .mov files with different formats, ie clear and fine in my first project/sequence, blurry as hell in the new project/sequence.
i must have done something originally to make it work but i have no idea what.
