I have a Macbook Pro 15" that I bought in Aug. 2006. I've had very few problems with it, but about a year ago my trackpad started acting funny. When I did the two-fingered scroll it would become stuck (and continue scrolling up and down even when I used one finger) or become unresponsive and jumpy. I started using an external mouse because I liked it better than the trackpad anyway, but then my external mouse finally gave out and I realized it was time to try and resolve this trackpad issue. This problem ONLY occurs when I use the trackpad.
A little more information on what is happening with the trackpad. I googled and searched mac forums more than twice and, though I've found other trackpad issues discussed at length, I have never found information on my specific problem. The trackpad will often work fine, then suddenly go crazy or get "stuck" in one spot. I have not figured out a specific thing that triggers the problem. Sometimes when I try to drag an item to my desktop or select something from the menu it will suddenly become unresponsive. It often gets stuck scrolling down a webpage, for example, when I'm only using one finger on it, and sometimes it becomes erratic and jumpy, then completely unresponsive or delayed. It's almost impossible to complete the simplest of tasks when this happens, I can't even move my cursor around the screen properly. It's driving me crazy!
Have you ever heard of this happening, and is there anything I can do to fix it? I can't tell if it's a hardware problem or a software problem. I wish I could remember when this problem started, because I did upgrade to Leopard about a year ago but I'm not sure if this is in any way associated with that. I'd like to avoid having to take it in to an apple store to get looked at or sent out to be repaired if possible, I don't like to go long periods of time without my laptop. Then again, who does?
Any ideas, help, advice, etc. is greatly appreciated!
